NYE 2008!!!

first things first, HAPPY NEW YEARS FOR 2009!!!! *hugs*
Several things to get through, seeing as it's been a month since my last post but while I count down the last few hours of 2008, I'll write about them.
New Year's Resolution: to be neat and tidy and clean my room at least once a month...and to go to the gym regularly. xD
Exciting News No. 1: My house is nearly finished!!! I now have a dark-purple-and-lilac-and cream coloured room. hence the new layout and colours of the blog
Exciting News No. 2: I didn't fail the HSC and my UAI should be enough to get into Pharmacy...unless UAI cutoff jumps up to like 98...bugger it, now I'm paranoid *grumbles*
Hopes for 2009: To get into Pharmacy, to move into my purple room, to bet and win on the Melbourne Cup, Sydney Swans premiership, to keep my New Year's Resolutions, to stay in touch with EVERYBODY, to have an 18th bday party, to go overseas (my mum wants to go to China and Hong Kong (me: HK=DISNEYLAND), my dad wants to go to America) and um...yeah, that's it so far.
Past Events:
Christmas Eve: went to Jaetea's house to make Sarby's card (hope you liked it Sarby!! sorry I couldn't go to your party =[ )
Christmas Day: Carried boxes of tiles and wooden planks around the new house- somehow strained my right arm - it kills to raise it above shoulder height =(
then went to a xmas party hosted by some of parent's friends. Knew pretty much nobody there (as everyone else at the party was related- they were all cousins or something) the people our age were either playing Elastics (me: wtf?) or playing Wii Sports with the little people. I looked like a loser and took out my mp3 and listened to the comfort of the Beatles, while having a convo with Vicky via sms (the joy of technology)- we talked about sand dunes, bogged mercedes and uni choices. then one of the oldies (okay, not the oldies as in the parents who were doing karaoke, but old as in mid to late 20s) invited me to join them. Someone had been given a SPICKS AND SPECKS board game and they were short one player (cos someone went home drunk) and thus I became the last player to join. Needless to say, my endless viewings of my recorded eps of Spicks and Specks and RockWiz paid off, as I won the whole thing =D I was dubbed "Myf Warhurst". Then went in to watch my brother be thrashed in Wii Baseball by a six year old girl half his height. Went home at about 12.30am
Boxing Day: absolutely nothing done except went to YumCha with the rellies

so yes, that's pretty much everything that has happened over Christmas. One last thing- Twilight the movie is hilarious- trust me, if you've read the book first, you will find it hilarious.

so Happy New Year Minna! see ya next year! off to newcastle/tuggerah tomorrow...oh the Joy -.-''

Nostalgicness

today was the last day of proper lessons ever. It was sad and exciting at the same time- I nearly cried after Jap today when we had our last lesson with Ms Lawson. Maths was also sad and exciting (but more funny) cos we made Miss Vis cry and laugh all within 30 seconds. Chem was good- we played the Dr Who board game. ^.^

All this nostlagia- and I think its going to be worse tomorrow morning when we get our Yr 7 letters, and on Thursday when we graduate. I'm going to list some of my favourite (and not so favourite) high school memories, in no particular order. These are just moments that for some reason or other, I still remember clearly and sometimes fondly:

1. Falling off the balance beam and breaking my wrist in Yr 7
2. Mr Gaut and the physics and the wall in Yr 10 (LoL)
3. Miss Vis and the simultaneous text messaging scandal in Yr 12
4. Watching my first ever Dr. Who episode in Yr 9 with Ms Potaka
5. Trivia Night at Yr 10 camp
6. "bendit" in Yr 8
7. Miss Vis and the police car
8. The end of year party in Yr 9 maths with Ms Maloukis
9. Mr. Harrison's theory about cows, trees, and lightning strikes (very recent, but funny)
10.Most of the outings with 10ve

Those are the main memories I can think of at the moment. There are heaps more but maybe those are for another time

Modern Music Sucks

I am currently typing this while listening to Australian Idol. Is it just me or does most modern music suck now??? Maybe it just depends on you taste, but at the moment, I don't see any musical artists who in you know, 20 years we are still going to be able to remember their name. I think thats the true mark of a recording artist- their ability to endure and transcend through time (sounds like a King Lear question -.-).

There are only a few artists/bands from today/the twenty first centurty that I like- Powderfinger, Silverchair, Eskimo Joe and Lifehouse. I love rock music, but I find most 'rock' artists today to be generic and uniform- nothing is worth remembering unless there is something that sets them apart. My brother is reading what I am typing at the moment- he is saying I sound like and old man complaining about modern life. Which is probably true...but he is the reason why I am going on this rant anyways >.<

Last night, for four hours straight my brother played the following three songs continuously: Hey There Delilah, Shake It by Metro Station and some SImple Plan song whose name is not worth remembering. I can't stand Simple Plan at all (the singer's voice pisses the hell out of me) and I KNOW that my brother played it just to spite me. But seriously, four hours straight?? I used to like Metro Station's sound, but my brother just ruined it for me. And I discovered that one of the guitarists in Metro Station is Miley Cyrus's brother and is hence related to the Giant Walking Mullet aka Achy Breaky Heart Man. I couldn't sleep until 1.30am because of him and then I got woken up at 6am cos of the rain and couldnt go back to sleep. THus, I am cranky, sleep deprived and on a war campaign against modern music artists.

I guess that's probably why I love older music- Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Queen because they are different and people still remember and love them today. Modern artists also borrow from classic rock- take Rihanna for example. Heaps of her songs borrow riffs and baselines from other songs such as: SOS (riff from Tainted Love by Soft Cell), Disturbia (Garden of Eden by Guns n Roses), Don't Stop the Music (the mamasemamasamamakusa bit is from Michael Jackson's Wanna Be Starting Something)Shut up and drive (New Order's Blue Monday)

Hey, that felt really good. I'm not as cranky anymore --> maybe I ought to rant more often. Even if nobody does read this.

Post Trials Bludging

okay, I'm blogging because somebody complained (awhile ago) that I never blog *coughjennycoughcough* and now that trials are over I have been absolutely bored out of my mind- which is why I'm blogging. I don't think anybody even checks my blog anyways, but this is keeping me preoccupied.

So, I finished on Monday, and the only worthwhile thing I've achieved is that I finished Chicken Invaders in one go. I told myself that I was going to study and revise for Chem, but obviously that hasn't happened- evidently due to the fact that I will most definitely develop RSI and arthritis in my fingers considering the amount of time I've been playing games on the computer, on my ds and on my wii. Even as I type this now, my fingers are cramping up slightly. -.-

On Friday I went to the city. I got there at 10am, went to market city (smiggle, gloria jeans), walked to town hall then went to jbhifi, then to borders in pitt st (where I bought Breaking Dawn), then to Kino where I bought my beloved manga. I met up with Amanda in Kino at about 11.30, then we went back to pitt st, saw a man in a sumo suit running on a treadmill then we went to pitt st markets where I succumbed to impulse buying (star making stuff). Then we went to QVB and looked at dresses, and I went to missha cos they were having a sale on nail polish (ib bought 3 - more impulse buying). By then I had spent about $80 in 2 hours. Then we met up with Vicky, Sarah, Jenny and Lisa and got lunch then ran into Catharine. Then we went to Myer to look at dresses then me, sarby, vicky and manda went to meet Nivi to watch The Dark Knight.

The Dark Knight wasn't all that bad- it was actually quite good (but not as good as everyone seems to be hyping it up to be in my opinion) and Heath Ledger was quite intimidating and frankly psychotic. Then we all went home I ended getting back to Cabra at around 7pm and had cold pizza for dinner.

anywho, today was the USyd open day. Me, vicky, nivi, amanda, jenny and may met up at central/railway square then we caught the bus to USyd. There were some UTS people there as well, and they were wearing these awesome hats in the shape of theUTS building. We got to USyd, met up with sarby and I went to the Med Science talk with Nivi and Amanda, then me and Amanda got balloons but I ended up losing mine in the Great Hall where it kind of floated up to the ceiling. AManda lost her balloon as well because it deflated while we were on the pharmacy tour/talk. We got lunch (ripoff!!) and then we ran into Jenny, Lisa, Catharine and Weijun- as well as pretty much half the grade.

The rest of the day was spent randomly wandering around the campus, until we left at about 1pm-ish. Me and Sarah then went to Capitol where we sought our fortune in stuff toys (translation: we gambled and lost money on the giant claw machines). There was this really cute toy that Sarah was trying to get- this giant piece of toast that had a weird hand thing sticking out its back side. I ended up getting three small toys. ^.^

So, all in all, in the last 6 days, I have manage to achieve the following:
  1. Finished Chicken Invaders
  2. Finsihed Fab Fashion (computer game- think Cakemania, except you make clothes)
  3. Finished Mario Party on DS (twice)
  4. Learn 15 new French Words (Qu'est-ce que ca veut dire?= What does that mean?)
  5. Spend over a hundred dollars, mainly on impulse buying
  6. DIscovered the evils of impulse buying
  7. Watch the Dark Knight
  8. Read 500 pages of Breaking Dawn
  9. Not study at all for CHemistry
  10. Prepare myself for the imminent failure of the upcoming results from trials

So, yeah, sorry if you had to read through that. But I'm really really really bored- my brother used up all our download while I was on trials so I havent been able to go on Youtube or anything *angry* So this was just ot pass time.

Walking in Circles...

I just got back from eating out with family and Canadian relatives at Sydney Tower (AKA Centrepoint) buffet- the view there is amazing!!! Its a pretty cool restaurant- 88 floors above the ground.

The coolest thing about it was that it rotated slowly while you ate so that you could see the entire city landscape ot the massive windows. The buffet area stayed stationary- only the table and chairs moved but not too quickly that you got dizzy and threw up everything you just ate. The entire room was circular so you got a 360 degree view of the city while eating teriyaki chicken, singapore stir fry noodle, mushroom tortellini etc.

The only bad thing was that as the buffet was in the centre of the circle (i.e. the axis of rotation) it didn't move, so if you went to get food, by the time you got back, your table would be about 3 metres away from it's original position. I got lost and ended up walking in an entire circle before I found my table again. -.-''

Another bad thing was that there was only one elevator working (instead of three) so it took us about half an hour to get to our table- which was right next to a window. You can actually see everything from Centrepoint- Sydney, believe it or not, is actually quite nice looking at night, but not as pretty as Tokyo or Bangkok.

Another cool thing that happened was that while we were eating, there were fireworks right outside the window which we had be spun to which was really convenient. I took a few photos but they're really dodgy cos I took them using my phone:

If you squint, its the QVB at night

Fireworks at night

Hyde Park- the fountain and trees from above...if you can see it

Can't wait for holidays- see you all at amanda's house

Nerves and Waiting...

hey!!

I thought I'd make a blog purely because apparently people are getting their STAT results and now I'm starting to freak out...I had an actual nightmare last night about only getting 143/200 for the STAT - I was seriously freaked out when I woke up at 2am. Now I'm worried about whether I should have left the hall so early and if I made heaps of stupid mistakes...gah, maybe I'm stressing out just a little bit too much...I hate waiting!!! And also, heaps of people are getting over 150 for the STAT (last year's cut off mark for Pharmacy) and now I'm worried that the STAT cutoff mark will be higher ths year. I'm now hoping that the nightmare wasn't a premonition...

anywho, I have Industrial Chem tutoring today where I will see amanda's chest-flashing "minion" (as Sarah named him). I will probably be spending most of the lesson trying not to look him in the eye or burst out laughing.

That's all for now. I have Chem in about 50 mins so I've got to go. FInally, I thought I'd put this clip from Spicks and Specks here as a form of compensation for reading through my ramblings and most likely incoherent writing. It's of Adam RIchards (who's on Rove sometimes) and his Australia Idol audition.
